Dear Pro Silva Administators and Collegues !
Hereby I want to inform you about some news concerning ProSilva activities.
1) New Pro Silva Administator
Lucie Vitkova resigned from her position as Pro Silva Administrator in the end of November due to private reasons.
We thank her for work done and wish good luck for future projects (private and work).
As new Administator we will appoint Alex Held from Germany, who already participated in our last meeting in Romania.

2) New Membership Fees:
In our last meeting in Romania (Sibiu) we confirmed a new membership fee system, which is based on the individual member number in our member countries instead of the forest area covered. So the result for some countries is a reduced fee and for some (e.g. Austria) a raised one.
The calcultaion is based on 200,- € as minimum fee + 1,5 € per individual member with two exeptions:
ANW Germany has a federal structure, where the budget of ANW Deutschland covers just a percentage of the individual numbers in their member
organisations in the different german federal countries.
Pro Silva Netherland is part of the forest society. Therefore their member number does not cover the approximatly 100 interested people that participate in the ProSilva activities.
We don’t accept regular members without payments any more ! So the minimum fee for those countries with just a few individual members will be 50 ,- € / year. If you don‘ t pay that minimum amount you will be treated as associated members without any vote in our meetings.
You will also be listed as associate members and not full members on our website in the future.
The countries Albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Poland and USA did not pay the last years. If they want to stay
as regular members they have to pay a minimum of 50,‐ € per year or they will be treated as associate members.
You will recieve the invoices by Anne Hürzeler within the next days.
We will offer associate membership also to those countries and organisations that want to have a nearer contact in the future also from outside of Europe.
3) Annual Meeting 2018
The next annual meeting will be held in Weimar (Germany) between 20th and 23rd June 2018. The detailed planning for the annual meeting in Weimar is finished, the english translation of the programme will be done in the next days and after that you will recieve it. We invited some people from the European Commission as well as Members of European Parliament, hopefully some will join our official meeting and discussions.
Of course we will be happy to have all countries representatives among us.
4) Translations:
The booklet „Pro Silva Silviculture“ of Pro Silva Wallonie will be translated to German and printed for distribution amoung our members and interests.
The booklet is also available in French and English language. If there is interest in some paper copies, please ask.
The „Pro Silva Principles“ have been translated to Spanish language and will be reprinted in 4 languages soon.
5) Projects:
Hereby I want to ask you if you are allready involved in some projects (national, international) currently or if you are acting in some projects as partners.
I think that projects can help us all for future developement and acceptance as an european organisation.
Please send me some short information about the projects and some web-links for more information.
For examples in Italy there is the a project in training for marking in pine forests. In Belelux they want to set up a project for silvicultural trainings.
Please sent me some information to publish on the website www.prosilva.org
I want to encourage you all to develop new projects or project partnerships in the future for strengthening the coherence of our network.
6) Website
We want to establish the website as a forum for all our activities. So please send me some news form your country (togehter with some photos)
We want to encourage you for feedback and further contacts during the year.
Our contact should not be reduced to one annual meeting per year.

We will redesign our website following the template that we developed for www.prosilvaaustria.at
7) International meetings:
I will participate at the international meeting in Pisek (Czech Republic) between February 18th and 21st. EFI togehter with Silva Bohemica are organising a Kick-Off-Workshop for the project SURE, SUstaining and Enhancing REsilience of European Forests.
The next “European Network INTEGRATE” meeting – organized from Czech ministry and the Forest Management Institut and the state forests of the Czech Republic – will take place betweeen March 20th-21st in Pilsen.

EFI produced a film about the integration of nature conservation acpects into forest management

These meetings offer a perfect chance for ProSilva to position itself as a project partner for european projects. Pro Silva is the network of practitioners that is needed by scientists. Our network can offer good impulses for further scinetific approaches.
Our slogan „Integrated forest management for resilience and sustainability across 25 countries“ and the titel of the 20 years anniversary in Slovenia (2009) „linking practice, science and educational outreach for advancing close-to-nature forest management“ express this approach.
Just this should be our task. So please support our „project“ and further developement !
PLEASE Tell me who of your representatives will act as ProSilva Administrator to exchange information between „ProSilva“ and your country’s organisation. – Alex Held will keep this process alive and progressive in the future.
